13 things you probably don’t know about Pam!
February 8, 2012 By Pam 3 Comments
This is a brand new blog, so chances are you don't know anything about me! We'll be getting to know each other in the weeks and months to come, but for now I thought I'd throw out a few random facts about me that have contributed to making me who I am. 1. I have two younger brothers and one older sister and definitely have always suffered from the middle child syndrome. The good news is that they are all wonderful people, and I totally love and respect each of them. Unusual, isn't it? I think so! 2. I have been a travel agent for over 30 years and have travelled all over the world. My favorite place is Greece, and I'd go on a cruise to anywhere, any day of the week. 3. I went out with my first boyfriend from when I was twelve … [Read More...]

Forever Cool: How to Achieve Ageless, Youthful, and Modern Personal Style by Sherrie Mathieson: Review
February 8, 2012 By Pam 2 Comments
I was both entertained and inspired by this book! Sherrie Mathieson's book consists of before (never cool) and after (forever cool) photos of regular people from age 50 to 75. She hits the nail on the head with many of the style mistakes most commonly made, and she makes suggestions for improvements that are simple, affordable, and realistic. Her message is to keep it classic and sleek, and after reading this book I am definitely inspired to go through my clothes and get rid of a few of the "befores" that still linger in my closet. I'm also inspired to go shopping because I came across a few looks that I loved and know I can accomplish them without too much effort. Sherrie makes some great suggestions about where to shop, how to combine … [Read More...]

I love Cat Cosmetics: READ WHY
January 19, 2012 By Pam Leave a Comment
I have always loved makeup, but somewhere around my mid forties, that changed. I knew that I needed to wear it, but I just wasn't happy with how it made me look. I felt overdone, unnatural, and the colors were just wrong. I tried lots of different products, trying to find the best make up for mature skin, and I got the same results. I resigned myself to the fact that I was just getting older and I just didn't look as good as I used to. The day I stumbled upon the "look 10 years younger" video by Catherine Hickland, owner and creator of Cat Cosmetics, changed my view completely. I placed my order immediately and I never looked back. I've been happily using her products ever since, and have introduced them to friends and family who have been … [Read More...]

Style over 50: Is it too late to get it?
January 17, 2012 By Pam Leave a Comment
While surfing the web the other day, I came across something on a site that caught my eye. It was quiz that was entitled "what is your fashion archetype"? It was a list of about 60 statements, and asked you to answer how strongly you agreed with each statement. At the end of the quiz there was a table that corresponded to your "fashion archtype" and you would fall into one of seven catagories: the Sophisticate, the Bohemian, the Domestic Goddess, the Trend-Setter, the Romantic, the Sports Woman, and the Classic. It got me to thinking about style in general and how I would never want to be lumped into one of those catagories. So what is "style"? Style is elusive. It is that special "je ne sais qois" that some people have and some people … [Read More...]

Foxy after Fifty is finally LIVE!!!!!
January 5, 2012 By Pam 2 Comments
I can't believe the day is finally here. The website idea I dreamed up over a year ago is finally a reality. Why did it take me so long to build? Well, lots of reasons, actually, but mainly three. First, I have no technical skill whatsoever, and I started out this project attempting to build the site myself. I actually did build it, and proceded to change the design about twenty times before I admitted to myself that I was never going to be happy with the way it looked. I needed help. Second, I have a nine year old daughter....who is an only child. I know what you're thinking. How can I be over 50 (actually 53 at the time of writing) and have a nine year old? Yep...I had her at 44, almost 45. Anyway, she is an active child who demands … [Read More...]

I’m over 50. Do I need a will?
January 4, 2012 By Pam Leave a Comment
Are you really a terribly irresponsible person for not having a will? If so, join about 75% of other elegible adults who also do not have wills. Let's try to apply some common sense to the subject. If you are 50 or over, you probably have a spouse and grown children, or you are a single mature adult. In fact, it is probably more important to have a will if you are married with minor children. In that case, it is essential to have a will to cover matters such as an appointment of a guardian for minors, a trustee to manage the assets that the minors may inherit etc. A word about taxes. There is a Federal Estate Tax with a present exemption of 5 million dollars. Additionally, many states have estate taxes with various exemptions. The … [Read More...]

Age-proof your mind! Keeping a healthy brain after 50.
January 4, 2012 By Pam Leave a Comment
Beyond exercise and diet, much has been written about ways in which to keep a healthy brain as we age. Whether or not we can prevent alzheimers is uncertain, but long term studies have proven that certain strategies seem to be more effective than others to foster general brain health. Anecdotal research may or may not be beneficial as well. Keep an active social life. Many researchers agree, people who keep up active social lives as they age may be helping their brain. Social interaction may increase feelings of self-worth and emotional validation which can help maintain memory. Social interaction may also present older minds with new challenges, keeping the brain more flexible. Try voluntering. Have frequent contact with … [Read More...]

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara: Review
November 20, 2011 By Pam 1 Comment
I thought that I'd write a quick post about this mascara because when I find a product that I like, I love to share. I have been experimenting with the new types of mascaras that have popped up in the marketplace recently. I tried the type with the ball shaped brush, the kind that coats your lashes with little "tubes", and many others. I feel that L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara can hold it's own with the other products that are four times the price. My feeling is, why spend more if you don't have to? Voluminous by L'Oreal adds length and volume, doesn't clump or smudge, and comes off easily. And, it's reasonably priced. As with applying any mascara, to avoid clumps make sure that you wipe the excess off of the brush before applying. To … [Read More...]
